"...give a (wo)man a fish (s)he is hungry again in an hour; if you teach (her)him to catch a fish you do (her)him a good turn."
The 'buy one, give one' model has come under much criticism. It is argued that it acts only as a band-aid solution, inhibiting communities in their own independence and generating their own means to survive.
At Y-Our Hands, we give a little differently. We aim to give something that will directly encourage someone's ability to learn, their drive, their mental wellbeing and confidence, essentially encouraging the earning of an income.
The workshops we teach, will give introductions to hands-on skills, that many people may not have had the opportunity to learn, and is seen as a rarity, in our digital age.
For every workshop you purchase, we give a workshop to someone we think will benefit from learning a lifelong, practical skill.
Our first series of workshops will allow us to work with young mothers who have chosen to continue their education. We want to be able to inspire, nurture and encourage these young women.
Our goal is to spark an interest in a younger generation that will benefit both themselves and the local industry.
WE ARE CONSTANTLY ON THE LOOKOUT FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS WE CAN WORK WITH. IF YOU BELONG TO A COMMUNITY GROUP THAT COULD BENEFIT FROM OUR WORKSHOPS, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH HERE
